Running Brave

My son Charlie came home from cross country practice telling me that watched a video of Billy Mills talking about how he believed against all odds that he could win gold in the Tokyo Olympics. I watched the 3 1/2 minute video and was inspired! So much so, that I decided to watch the full length movie, Running Brave.

Billy Mills is a Native American than had to overcome much discrimination and doubt to run for the University of Kansas, where he was named the NCAA All American Cross Country Runner 3 times. He ended up leaving Kansas and joined the Marines, where he trained for and ran in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

I watched the movie while working out. I had my weights out and was doing my squats, pushups, core work and burpees. During the running scenes I would run in place, mentally putting myself in a race situation. Doing this drew me into the story even more and I became quite emotional.

Billy Mills was not at all favored to win the 10,000 meters in 1964. He did though, and you can hear the genuine surprise and excitement as he passed the two other runners in the final stretch! So exciting!

I HIGHLY suggest watching the short interview with Billy to inspire you to run with more heart and believe that you can achieve more than people may expect. And if you can, watch the full length movie. Believe me, you will be inspired!!!

Happy Running, and Run Brave!
